High Speed Luxury at the Jaguar Land Rover Experience

On a late Saturday afternoon a group of over 160 photographers and models all met. This was the second car event I attended organized by the ExploreZA group. I was excited at the prospect of driving high speed cars, climbing hills and snapping gorgeous automobiles. The event promised rides in fast cars and cars conquering the impossible. They delivered as promised.
Exploring the Jaguar Land Rover Experience Venue
After a quick word from the event organizers and safety talk from the team at the Jaguar Land Rover Experience we all rushed off in different directions to the various arenas. Each featured Jaguars or Land Rovers showing off their particular set of skills.
Everyone attending was allowed to hop in a car, be it driver or passenger. I headed to the skid pan and signed up as a passenger. After a bit of a wait I took by turn in the passenger seat. It wasn't long before I was thrown around wildly as the professional drivers showed off. As a result I didn't manage to capture any footage from the passengers seat but did keep my lunch down. Small victories.
After the skid pad I walked on wobbly legs to the Land Rover track where 4x4's took on impossible obstacles. The lines for seats in the vehicles were long so I opted to take snaps instead. The Land Rover course featured a variety of terrains to show off. From dirty and dusty to wet and muddy the course had it all.
After a couple hours of frantic speed and crazy climbs the cars were parked. Models and photographers too their spots and snapped away.

Photographing Luxury Cars
When it comes to luxury cars most of the hard work is done for you by the car designers. But if you insist then the Canon 5D MKII and the 24-70mm f2.8 are perfect for capturing the moments.
When it came to technical details panning and capturing the drifting Jag's on the skid pad took the most work. Normally tracking a car speeding along a straight is easy to follow. But when the cars are violently jerking back and forth it makes tracking a challenge.
Because of this the best thing to do is lower the shutter speed. This gives you that beautiful background blur. And try focus on one part of the car. I focused on the door handles. I tried to keep them in the same spot on the frame which I found helped. Unfortunately even with my patience the wild movements made it near impossible. But it didn't stop me from trying.
